1st XI : 21 Nov 2009 v City of Oxford 1

Another Saturday in November, another pile of rain.  This time away at City of Oxford.  Wycombe were nervous going into the game, knowing a win over the league-leaders could see them move up into second or even first place.

The game started evenly although not at any great pace. Wycombe had most of the ball in midfield but were unable to release the forwards into the penetrating runs which have been so damaging to our opposition in recent weeks.  City had attacking chances of their own but were thwarted each time by a solid Wycombe defence, marshalled by man-if-the-match Lisa Davies, and were unable to get any shots away.

Wycombe finally found success when captain Charly Brydon dribbled up the right and hit an unstoppable shot past the keeper. 1-0 at half time.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first. The Wycombe defence came under pressure from the City attack but dealt calmly with any threat. Relief for Wycombe came 10 minutes from time as Brydon went on an another attacking run, the city defense unable to cope with her pace. Their keeper went down to tackle but Brydon managed to dribble along the back line past the keeper's feet and squeeze the ball into the corner.  Final score 2-0 followed by some very vocal celebrations from our girls.

Wycombe move into second place with 3 games left to play until the halfway point of the season.
